The hammock is typical of Nicaraguan culture, and is a fine product generally used for resting or as decoration, which is produced mainly in the town of Masaya. Traditionally styled, this deluxe XL hammock measures 1.75m wide by 2.5m long, with a total length of 4m. Perfect for two small people or one large adult.

In Nicaragua, hammock manufacturing takes place in small, micro-economic units managed and operated by the owner and/or members of his family, who, in their own interests, are responsible for managing and running the business. This hammock is made in Masaya, the main production center for Nicaraguan hammocks. The manufacturing method has been handed down from generation to generation. A thick cotton yarn hammock

The production process for the handmade xl hammock begins when the thread is twisted into shackles of various sizes. This process, known as "torcido" (twisting), will enable the thread to tighten and gain strength. This operation is carried out manually, using a wooden wheel. The body of the hammock, woven mainly by men, offers maximum comfort when lying down. The extra-thick ropes allow your back to settle perfectly, ensuring an ideal position once found.

Making the xl hammock on a loom

The thread is then wound onto a loom, which weaves the hammock lengthwise using a kind of large wooden needle. The thread is then woven into a large piece that forms the body of the hammock.

A tribute to the legend of Santiago Crater

The Santiago crater of the Masaya volcano is one of Nicaragua's 7 active volcanoes, with 18 acts of activity recorded since 1520. Revered by the natives who consulted a witch inside, the Spanish conquerors called this volcano the "mouth of hell" and placed a cross to evoke the devil and exorcise the demon.
